Case Study
Hometown: Hamilton, Scotland
Trade: Restaurant Service
Competition: WorldSkills 2009, Calgary
Result: Bronze Medal
Qualifications:
* Working towards Academy of Culinary Arts awards

Employer: Gleneagles Hotel
Ambition
To gain as much experience as possible across all areas of food and beverage service and
hotels. By the time I am 30, I would like to be in a senior management position. But before then, I
would like to travel with work to experience other cultures and their visions of hospitality.
What made you get involved in competitions?
My employer presented me with the option to do greater things and improve myself for both our
benefit. Competing allowed me to meet other people in the same industry and make contacts for the
future.
What does this experience mean to you?
I am very proud to be here as the only competitor in restaurant service.
Personal achievements
I came 2nd in Young Chef Young Waiter 2008 and achieved a degree at the age of 20.
Something we didn’t know about Katie
I am beginning to learn the Modern Greek language.
