Ambition
I hope to have a career that I continue to find interesting, challenging and rewarding.
What made you get involved in competitions?
As an Engineering student my interest is mainly in electronics, and having done soldering
courses for work I found that I really enjoyed the assembly side of it, as well as the design. My
line manager suggested that I enter the competition and I saw what a great opportunity it was to
use some of my practical skills that are rarely used at University.
What does this experience mean to you?
To me, participating means the chance to meet other young people as passionate about their
vocations as I am, learning new skills, and having the opportunity to do something I enjoy with
support from others.
Something we didn’t know about Melanie
I enjoy reading novels, and have a fairly large collection of Rom-Com DVDs. I also do
cross-stitch to keep my hands busy, and play the cello, though not very well. I was a sea cadet for
7 years and still go sailing when I get the chance.
