Alumni Programme
Alumni Programme
As a former UK WorldSkills competitor you have now become a member of our Alumni, which is an exclusive club for all past UK competitors.
Although your experience of competing at WorldSkills is now in the past, there are many ways in which you can stay involved with UK Skills and skills competitions whilst also continuing your on-going personal and professional development. Whether you are interested in becoming a future Assistant Training Manager, looking to get involved in supporting WorldSkills London 2011 or keen to find out about the next re-union of your team mates, the WorldSkills UK Alumni has a lot to offer.
We hope that you will want to stay committed not only to UK Skills and its work in promoting excellence through competitions but also committed to acting as ambassadors for practical vocational learning in general.
The main elements to the Alumni Programme are:
Alumni Events
Each year UK Skills host specific events for Alumni members to re-connect and share their experiences. Some events will have a particular theme/discussion area whilst others may be more general ‘reunion’ type events to bring people together. You will be sent invites for these events at least once a year.
Competition Performance Support for Future WorldSkills Competitors
As past WorldSkills competitors, you can offer future competitors a real insight into what it ‘ really’ means to sign-up to the WorldSkills journey at induction stage. There is also an opportunity to act as ‘second markers’ supporting UK Skills Training Managers/Experts in measuring against the WorldSkills standard the competency of those competing.
WorldSkills London 2011 Involvement
We hope that when London plays host to the 41st WorldSkills Competition in October 2011 Alumni members will want to be involved in some way. With your experience as a competitor, we recognise that you provide a unique and highly valuable perspective on the running of the competition. There will be many ways that you can potentially get involved whether it be providing support in the competition areas, local knowledge and support for visiting member nation teams, or hosting ‘VIP’s,’ Press and other visitors to the Competition.
Engagement with Education & Industry
There are many opportunities to share your experiences as a past competitor, and in doing so, inspire others to improve their skills. Examples of this could be talking to the media, speaking at a UK Skills or sector event, or providing case studies to promote practical vocational education and learning. Professional media and presentation training can be made available for all Alumni members who would like to sign up to be part of this engagement aspect of the programme.
‘On-line’ Virtual Community
We would like to encourage as many of our Alumni members as possible to get re-connected and engage with each other in an online community. This can be used not only on a social level but also to exchange professional and personal career development advice and keep up to date with the latest news.
In the future, we will be setting up an ‘Alumni Group’ on Facebook but in the interim would
encourage as many Alumni members as possible to re-connect with their former team mates via the UK
Skills page also on Facebook. You can do this by visiting
UK Skills Facebook and ‘
becoming a fan’ of UK Skills – Official, if you already have a Facebook account.
As part of the WorldSkills, UK Alumni you will have access to:
Welcome Pack
Every member of the UK WorldSkills, Alumni will receive a Welcome pack, full of information about the Alumni Association and how to stay involved with UK Skills and its partners.
Alumni Events
Each year there are specific events for Alumni members. In addition to these, Alumni will be invited to a range of other UK Skills events. The events will give members the opportunity to network with fellow professionals, be re-united with former team colleagues and learn more about what’s happening in the development of skills competitions.
Media Training
Professional media and presentation training is available for all members who have offered to speak to the media or talk at an event on behalf of the UK WorldSkills Alumni or UK Skills.
UK WorldSkills, Alumni newsletters
WorldSkills UK Alumni members will be kept up to speed on all Alumni related activity as well as major competition developments and latest news on WorldSkills London 2011 via the UK WorldSkills Almuni newsletters and e-newsletters.
UK WorldSkills, Alumni Awards
In November 2009, UK Skills will be launching two brand new Alumni awards sponsored by Edge which are open to all past WorldSkills competitors. Full details of the awards including categories, how to enter and the closing date will be sent to Alumni members in 2010.
Information on International Exchange Programmes
There are various international exchange programmes available through the WorldSkills network. As a UK WorldSkills, Alumni member you will receive information about any such programmes UK Skills is aware of and advice on how to apply.
