UK Skills has two annual awards for  WorldSkills, UK Alumni members. The categories are:

  •  Most Valuable Contribution to Skills and Practical Learning
  •  Outstanding Achievement

Application Process

The application process consists of a one page entry form.

Applicants can apply themselves or be nominated by friends, work colleagues, UK Skills or Edge. In addition to providing personal details, applicants/nominators will be asked to provide a supporting statement no longer than 250 words explaining why the award is deserved.


Judging Criteria

The Award for Most Valuable Contribution to Skills and Practical Learning

  • The application must demonstrate that the person has made a significant impact by supporting skills and practical learning. (This may include ideas for the improvement of the WorldSkills, UK Alumni, encouraging other young people to become involved in competitions, playing an active role in promoting practical learning and vocational skills or supporting WorldSkills London 2011.)
  • In conjunction with the above point the application must demonstrate that the person has given up his/her own time to promote skills/practical learning.

The Award for Outstanding Achievement

  • The application must demonstrate that the person has significantly ‘excelled’ since their participation in the WorldSkills Competition. This may include getting a promotion at work or setting up a viable new business.
  • The applicant must be able to indicate the skills they have gained though this achievement.
  • A supporting reference must be supplied for verification; this could be from an employer, client or business partner for example.

The Judging Process

Entries will be short listed using the criteria above and then judged by a panel comprising two representatives from Edge, the Chief Executive of UK Skills, the Director of Communications at UK Skills, the Head of Skills Development, the Director of Competitions at UK Skills and serviced by the Alumni Co-ordinator - harry.smith@ukskills.org.uk.


Notification to short listed entries and Presentation of Awards

Nominated entries will be notified by post or e-mail and all applicants will be invited to attend the WorldSkills UK 2010 Competition Awards held at the BFI IMAX in London 4th November 2010. Both awards will be presented by the Chief Executive of UK Skills and a nominated representative from Edge.
